A lot of people have asked me why I do what I do. I mean, aren't retired people supposed to just sit around all day and read AARP? Nope.
I've always loved photography. I graduated from the Germain School of Photography in NYC, where I had pictures appear in The New York Times, Long Island's Newsday, and several other papers. Growing up, I've always loved movies, and especially movie making. Knowing I could never make a movie, I did the next best visual thing--and took up photography.
Those early days were interesting. But all that was out there for jobs were weddings, and other rites of passages, none of which interested me.
It wasn't till I retired from teaching, that I decided to take up photography again, and have done it for nearly seven years now.
I feel energized when I shoot because I'm creating. I try and do uncommon pictures, and not the typical glam shit that so many local photogrpahers opt for. I can't emphasize that enough--I like to be different with what I create. i love the horror, fantasy, and sci fi genres, so with the help of Photoshop, I try and create pictures that fall into that realm. It's not just the pretty girls. I'm attracted to the electricial drive to excel. Moreover, it's what I've wanted to do all my life. The last seven years have reawakened my passion for photography and doing more publications that use my work. Furthermore, I've met so many nice people. Vanessa kicks off the list. Not only is she my web mistress (sans whips), she's my Dr. Phil. We've had long talks, and she's always been great. I love working with Mary, who is easy to shoot and talk with. Chloe keeps me sharp. Jenna's beauty is amazing...and her intelligence and warmth run deep. I love shooting Lauren, and just wish we could do more, the same with Sara. Corinna is a newcomer, but boy, she is showing such drive! Jessica is finding her niche as well. I love working with Frank and Ray at Camelot printers. These guys know their stuff, and always make me look great with their work. Of course, I love meeting new girls, and hope to find many more.
In short, it's fun.
